Three Giants Make CSS Final Rankings

NHL Central Scouting has released its final rankings ahead of the 2012 NHL Draft, and three current members of the Vancouver Giants have made the list.

Defenceman Brett Kulak is the highest-ranked Giant, coming in at 55th amongst North American skaters. Kulak played in all 72 regular season games, tallying 9 goals, 15 assists, and a team-best +29.

Center Jordan Martinook comes in at 128th after a break-out 40-goal season to go along with 24 assists. Martinook also played in all 72 regular season games and earned the Giants’ 2011/12 Iron Man Award.

Winger Dalton Sward is ranked 179th. The fiesty forward had 11 goals and 11 assists in 54 games this season.

Giants listed goalie Matt Tomkins was also ranked 10th amongst North American goaltenders. Tomkins is currently playing for Sherwood Park of the AJHL.

Overall, the Western Hockey League is poised to produce a bumper-crop of blueliners this season, with five defencemen ranked in the Top 12 North American skaters. Everett’s Ryan Murray leads the way at #2, followed by Moose Jaw’s Morgan Reilly (5), Edmonton’s Griffin Reinhart (10), Red Deer’s Mathew Dumba (11) and Portland’s Derrick Pouliot (12). Kelowna’s Colton Sissons is the top-ranked WHL forward, at 14th overall.

The 2012 NHL Draft will take place June 22 & 23 in Pittsburgh, PA.
