Brendan Jensen made 34 saves for his 1st victory of the season, leading the Vancouver Giants to a 5-4 win over the Kamloops Blazers in an afternoon affair on Thanksgiving Monday. 5 different players scored for the Giants, who improved to 5-0-1-0 vs. the B.C. division this year.
Jensen was the story of the first period, stopping all 15 shots Kamloops fired his way. Matt Bellerive got Vancouver on the board with his first career WHL goal. The Giants led 1-0 after one period.
In the second period, the Giants were quick to add to their lead as Brendan Gallagher scored his 8th of the season. He now has a point in every single game this year. Luke Fenske picked up his first career WHL goal later in the period to give Vancouver a 3-0. Kamloops would finally get on the board, as Colin Smith scored to make it a 3-1 game. The Giants would restore their 3 goal lead as James Henry banged home a rebound for his 6th goal of the season, chasing Jeff Bosch from the Kamloops net. After Bellerive took a 5 minute major for boarding, the Blazers scored two power play goals courtesy Linden Saip and Austin Madaisky to make it a one goal gamel. However, before the period was out Dalton Sward beat Jon Groenhyde to make it 5-3 through 40 minutes of play.
The third period saw few offensive chances. The Blazers would score a late goal, but it wasn’t enough as Vancouver earned their 5th win of the season, defeating Kamloops 5-4.
The Giants return home to Vancouver where they will take on the Prince Albert Raiders Wednesday October 15th at the Pacific Coliseum. Game time is 7:00pm. The pregame show begins at 6:30 on AM 650.
