Giants To Play A Pair Of Games In Prince George

This weekend the Vancouver Giants make their first of two trips this season to Prince George, playing a pair of games at the CN Centre Friday and Saturday night vs. the Cougars. The Giants (7-6-0-1) come in playing their best hockey of the season, while the Cougars (3-10-0-1) are struggling having lost 7 straight games, including a 6-2 affair at the hands ov Vancouver Tuesday night at the Pacific Coliseum

Friday will mark the return of Neil Manning to the line up. The blueliner hasn’t played since the opening weekend of the season, missing 12 games with an upper body injury. It will also most likely mark the debut of newcomer Taylor Makin. A free agent acquistion on Monday, the 19 year old played the past two seasons with the Cougars. He was released after Prince George’s first game of the season.

The Cougars will be without defenseman Martin Marincin. He was suspended for his hit on Anthony Ast Tuesday night. The Edmonton Oilers draft pick received a 5 minute major for interference and a game misconduct on the play. The length of the suspension is yet to be determined. Of course Prince George will also be without sniper Brett Connolly. The Tampa Bay Lightning have decided to keep their former 1st round pick in the NHL.

There are a number Giants who have put up some impressive numbers as a late. Brendan Gallagher leads the way. The reigning WHL Player of the Week was named to Team WHL for the Subway Super Series on November 16. He leads the team in goals (11) and points (19) and has 4 goals, 5 assists, for 9 points in his last 4 games. His linemate Marek Tvrdon has started to heat up as well. In his last 3 games he has 4 goals and 4 assists. Dalton Sward and Cain Franson are also both on 3 game point streaks. Sward has 2 goals and 2 assists, while Franson has a goal and 6 assists during the stretch. Adam Morrison continues to shine since being acquired from Saskatoon. He has made 9 straight starts and picked up 5 victories.

Both games this weekend start at 7:05 pm and can be heard live on AM 650 beginning with the pregame show at 6:30 pm.
