The Vancouver Giants couldn’t hold on to a 1 goal lead late in the third period and end up losing in overtime to the Kamloops Blazers 5-4. Kamloops got off to a great start thanks to goals from Chase Schaber and Brendan Ranford to give them a 2-0 lead through 20 minutes.
In the second, the Giants power play picked up where it left off Friday night as Matt MacKay got the home team on the board with his 4th of the season with just 25 seconds left in the period. 2-1 was the score through 40 minutes.
Vancouver didn’t waste anytime tying up the game in the third. Once again with the man advantage, captain Craig Cunningham found the back of the net to make it a 2-2 game. Then Marek Tvrdon scored his 6th of the year to give the Giants their first lead of the night. Unfortunately it only last 29 seconds as the former Giant, J.T. Barnett, potted home his 3rd of the season. Looking to extend his scoring streak to 8 games, Brendan Gallagher picked up his 7th goal of the year to give the Giants a one goal lead again. However, this time it was Dylan Willick getting the equalizer only :53 seconds later to tie it at 4-4 and send the game to overtime.
In the extra frame the Giants were unable to clear their own zone and the puck found its way on to the stick of Linden Saip and he made no mistake, giving the Blazers a 5-4 overtime victory.
These two teams will play the back half of the home and home series Monday afternoon in Kamloops. Puck drop is 2:00pm. Pregame show begins at 1:30 on AM 650.
