Gallagher And Hay Win Bronze Medal

Congratulations to Brendan Gallagher and Don Hay who won a bronze medal at the 2012 World Junior Championships Thursday with a 4-0 win over Finland. It is the 14th straight year Canada has won a medal and first bronze medal since 2001. Canada outshot Finland 44-27. Mark Visentin earned the shutout in net stopping all 27 shots, earning player of the game honours.

Brendan Gallagher was held pointless vs. Finland, but finished the tournament with 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points and was a +5 in 6 games. With the victory Don Hay tied Brent Sutter and Craig Hartsburg for the most wins in Canadian World Junior history with 12. Hay’s all-time record is 12-1, winning gold in 1995 and bronze in 2012.

Both Gallagher and Hay will return to Vancouver Friday and will be back on the bench Saturday when the Giants play host to the Portland Winterhawks at 7:00 pm at the Pacific Coliseum.
