KSW LAWYERS Q & A Community Partner Profile:

Tell us about the “mission” of your business as it pertains to your customers and the community organizations that you sponsor and support?

Our mission at KSW Lawyers is to empower people and businesses in our community by educating them on their rights and obligations and tirelessly working with our clients to achieve the outcome that meets their objectives.

We are local. We live in the communities that we serve. Living and working locally allows us to provide the quality of service of a downtown law firm but at affordable rates for our clients.

We care about our communities and take part in them every day through participation in local events, chambers of commerce, and pro bono activities and societies.

We are no strangers to supporting local sport teams. KSW Lawyers is a proud partner of the Vancouver Giants, and for the past few years, we have also sponsored the Abbotsford Ice Peewee C1 girls hockey team. Further, a few of our lawyers are coaches for the Chilliwack Giants, and the White Rock Titans. One of our team members, Michael Weiler, runs the officiating hockey program at the Arbutus Club that strives for inclusiveness; where teaching young people discipline, judgment and confidence reminds us that we can only be the best we can be when we have mentors and advisors who can help us shape our actions.

The staff at KSW Lawyers are committed to supporting and participating in several minor sports programs that extend well beyond “just” junior hockey.

Promoting education is a big part of our mission and values. For the past years we have proudly sponsored the MEI Academic Scholarships program and offered scholarships to graduating students to assist with their future education.

Some other professional associations and non profit organizations we support include the New Car Dealers Association of BC, Chilliwack Fraser Rotary Club, and Chilliwack Hospice Society, SurreyCares Community Foundation, Langley Animal Protection Society, Kidney Foundation of Canada, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, to name a few.

How long have you been partnering with the Vancouver Giants? Why is this partnership important to you?

Although this is the first year of partnership between KSW Lawyers and the Vancouver Giants, we expect this will be a long and successful partnership. We have always supported local junior hockey teams, and are looking forward to getting to know the Vancouver Giants team better. Our values and community involvement and initiatives line up with the Vancouver Giants vision. In supporting the team, KSW Lawyers hopes to support junior hockey in Langley and Metro Vancouver and promote a great Canadian family entertainment tradition in the community.

We agree with Eric Florchuk. Our partnership with KSW Lawyers has us feeling excited too!

Do you have a favourite Vancouver Giants player/memory?

We really enjoyed being able to attend so many games this past season, even if it was an unexpectedly shorter season. One of our favourite players to watch was the exciting Tristen Nielsen. One of the great memories this season has to be getting to experience the momentum of a spectacular 11-game winning streak for the Vancouver Giants, matching their longest ever regular season winning streak (Set in 2008-09). With this being the first year of our partnership, we are looking forward to many more great memories to come!

What do you want your customers/our fans to know about the current state of your business?

The safety of our employees and clients is top of mind at KSW Lawyers. During these times we continued to operate as an essential business, but our team switched to mostly remote services, offering a mixture of telephone consultations and video conferences. Our team has also focused its efforts on providing resources on current benefits and issues surrounding COVID-19, through organizing free webinars and publishing blog articles covering common questions. These resources are available here: https://www.ksw.bc.ca/employment-labour-blog/

Please feel free to add anything else on behalf of your business that you would like our fans to know?
