Vancouver Giants 2019 Legends Cup Recap: Howe 5 – Quinn 4

2019 Chevrolet Vancouver Giants Training Camp wrapped up Sunday morning with the annual Legends Cup game at the Ladner Leisure Centre. 2019 draftee Jaeger Murdock struck with one minute and 44 seconds remaining in the final period to help clinch a 5-4 victory for Team Howe over Team Quinn.

Justin Lies, Josh Niedermayer, Nathaniel Hinds and Nicco Camazzola also registered goals for Howe received 40 combined saves from goaltenders Drew Sim and Sean Norum.

Justin Sourdif responded with two goals for Quinn while Jack Seaverson and Brenden Pentecost added singles. Along with his goal, Jack Seaverson added two assists. Goaltenders Ethan Rau and Conor Smith combined for 38 saves.

1st Period:

No Scoring 

2nd Period:

QUINN – Jack Seaverson opened the scoring at the 2:50 mark. He knocked home his own rebound. Justin Sourdif and Lynden Hanvold drew the assists.

QUINN – Justin Sourdif increased the Quinn lead at 7:57 off a shot through traffic. Jack Seaverson and Damian Palmieri helped set up the play.

*Goalie Change: In came Conor Smith for Quinn and Sean Norum for Howe.

HOWE – Nathaniel Hinds put Howe on the board on a clear-cut breakaway. Tanner Brown grabbed the lone assist. Hinds’ goal came at 13:03.

QUINN – Brenden Pentecost restored the two-goal lead for Quinn at 16:42. Matthew Stewart and Hunter Kannok Leipert both assisted.

HOWE – 62 seconds later Nicco Camazzola moved Howe back within one when he shot from the left-point found its way home. Bowden Singleton and Josh Niedermayer earned assists.

 3rd Period:

 HOWE – 2:21 into the final frame, Josh Niedermayer tied the game for Howe with assists to Jaeger Murdock and Nathaniel Hinds.

HOWE – Justin Lies moved Howe ahead for the first time at 7:13. John Little and Tate-Carson Taylor assisted on the play.

QUINN – Justin Sourdif evened the score at 4-4 with his second tally of the game at 15:11. Jack Seaverson notched his third point of the game with an assist. Jacob Gendron recorded the second assist.

HOWE – With under two minutes to go, Jaeger Murdock restored the one-goal cushion for Howe. Tyler Musgrove and Bowden Singleton helped set up the play.


  • Six of the Giants 11 draftees from 2019 recorded at least one point in the Legends Cup game. Jack Seaverson (Round 9 – 1G, 2A) led the way three points. Josh Niedermayer (Round 2 – 1G, 1A), Bowden Singleton (Round 2 – 2A) and Jaeger Murdock (1G, 1A) each had two points. Damian Palmieri (Round 4 – 1A), and Lynden Hanvold (Round 10 – 1A) both had one point.
  • Three of the Giants 10 draftees from 2018 scored goals: Justin Lies (Howe), Brenden Pentecost (Quinn) and Nicco Camazzola (Howe).
  • Defenceman Tanner Brown (Howe) recorded one assist. As the most senior player on the Howe roster, he received the Legends Cup afterwards. He has played on the winning team in each of the previous three Legends Cup games.
