Portland, OR - The Vancouver Giants opened a 3 game road trip with a convincing 4-0 win in Portland over the Winterhawks. The Giants got a first period goal from Craig Cunningham at the 4:07 mark, and that was all Jamie Tucker needed as he stopped 24 shots for his first shutout and 9th win of the season. Cunningham added a power play goal in the 3rd period for his 12th of the season, tying him with J.T. Barnett for the team lead. Milan Kytnar with a shorthanded goal and Kevin Connauton also scored for the Giants who have won two in a row, and outscored their opponents 12-2 in the process. The Giants broke open a close 2-0 game with 2 goals in the 3rd as they outshot the Winterhawks 16-4 in the final period, and 40-24 overall. Cunningham, Connauton, who also had an assist and Barnett who had two assists, all had two points in the win. The win was the 12th this season for Vancouver, who has lost only 4 times in regulation in 19 games. Vancouver has 27 points and an 8 point lead over Kelowna in the B.C. Division. The Giants will play in Tri-City on Friday night against the Americans, with first place in the Western Conference on the line. The Americans have 28 points, one more than the Giants.
