Giants Look To Sweden For Second Import Pick
Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver Giants have selected left
winger Casper Carning from Goteborg, Sweden, with their second
selection (37th overall) in the 2010 CHL Import Draft. With the
pick, Carning becomes the first-ever Swedish player to suit up
for the Giants.
Born March 7, 1991, Carning is listed at 6’3”, 215
lbs. He spent last season playing for Frolunda Jr. in the Swedish
U20 League. He posted 7 goals and 10 assists in 16 games played,
and will be eligible for selection in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Giants Executive Vice President and General Manager, Scott Bonner
says “Carning is a big, strong winger with loads of international
experience that JP Barry feels would be a very good Western Hockey
League player.”
Each team in the CHL can carry two European players on its roster
each season. In the annual CHL Import Draft, the order of selection
rotates between the WHL, OHL and QMJHL, with teams picking in
inverse order of the regular season standings. Earlier in the
day, the Giants selected Slovakian forward Marek Tvrdon with their
first selection (13th overall).
