With excerpts from Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Media Release
Local broadcaster and in-house voice of the Vancouver Giants, John Ashbridge, has recently been named Crime Stoppers International’s 2010 “Civilian of the Year”. This is the highest civilian award that Crime Stoppers bestows and John was chosen from amongst candidates representing Crime Stoppers programs from around the world. The award is given “in recognition of selfless devotion, persistent service and significant contribution to a member Crime Stoppers program.”
John is a member of the Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers Board of Directors and serves as the voice of Crime Stoppers, writing and producing the popular weekly Crime Stoppers “Crime of the Week” and “Most Wanted – Mugshots” features heard on radtio stations and Shaw Community Access TV throughout the Lower Mainland.
A life-long broadcaster, John retired from almost four decades of full-time employment with CKNW in 2005. But perhaps he is best known as the in-house public address announcer for Vancouver hockey – filling that roll with the NHL Canucks, the WHL Giants, and the Canuck Alumni. He is also the Vice-Chair of the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation in New Westminster and serves on a number of civic committees in that community.
Please join us in congratulating John on this tremendous award, and for his enduring devotion to crime-fighting in our community.
