Ronning Lifts Giants to Third Straight Win

Ty Ronning scored the winning goal in overtime for the second consecutive game, and the Vancouver Giants beat the Everett Silvertips 5-4 on Tuesday night at the Langley Events Centre. Alec Baer, Brendan Semchuk, Owen Hardy and James Malm scored for Vancouver as well. Ryan Kubic made 30 saves in the Giants’ crease.

Eetu Tuulola put Everett ahead early in the first period, capitalizing on a turnover in the Vancouver zone to give the visitors the lead. Baer tied the game later in the opening frame, bagging his third goal of the season on a power play, when Foster set him up with a nice backhand pass from the side of the Everett net. Semchuk put the G-Men ahead, scoring just 14 seconds later from the right wing after a pretty saucer pass from Malm.

Dominic Zwerger scored two straight goals, one on a power play, to even the score in the second period before Connor Dewar gave the Silvertips the lead again, tallying his fifth goal of the campaign. Malm tied the game again in the late stages of the stanza, firing the puck past Everett goalie Mario Petit from the right circle.

Neither team scored in the third period, but Ronning tipped a Matt Barberis point shot past Petit just 31 seconds in the extra frame to give the G-Men their third straight win. It was the Insurance Goal of the Game.

Everett out shot Vancouver 34-26. Vancouver was 1-for-4 on the power play.

The Giants were without Radovan Bondra who is represented Slovakia at the World Junior Hockey Championships while Noah Juulsen and Carter Hart of the Silvertips are both playing for Team Canada.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday in Everett. The puck drop is slated for 7:05pm.

The Giants return to the Langley Events Centre on Friday night to host the Kamloops Blazers. The opening face-off is slated for 7:30pm. For tickets, click here or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
