Popowich to Play for Gold at U-17 Challenge

Vancouver Giants forward Tyler Popowich will play for a gold medal today at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and Team Canada Black faces Sweden in the tournament final. Puck drop is slated for 4:30pm. You can watch the game on TSN 2.

Canada Black booked their spot in the final with a 3-2 shootout win over Russia on Friday evening. They’ve gone 4-0 at the tournament since losing their first preliminary round game to Team Canada White.

Popowich, who was drafted third overall by the Giants in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, has one assist and two penalty minutes through five games at the tournament. The Surrey native has played 10 games for the Giants this season. It’s his rookie year in the WHL.

The Giants will be back in action at the LEC on Saturday night when they welcome the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Puck drop is slated for 7:00pm. For tickets, click here or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
