Marek Tvrdon To Join Red Wings AHL Affiliate

Vancouver Giants forward Marek Tvrdon will join the Detroit Red Wings AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The 18 year old is coming off his 1st full season in the WHL in which he led all rookies in scoring during the regular season with 31 goals, 43 assists and 74 points. He also represented his native Slovakia at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Alberta. Tvrdon was selected by the Red Wings in the 4th round, 115th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The Grand Rapids Griffins are in fight for a playoff spot in the AHL’s Western Conference. Currently they are on the outside looking in, 6 points out of a playoff spot with just 7 games remaining in their regular season schedule. Their next game is at home on Wednesday April 4 vs. the Texas Stars, followed by a home and home series this weekend with the Toronto Marlies. The Griffins are coached by former Vancouver Canucks forward Curt Fraser.
