The Vancouver Giants tallied their third victory in a row Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum on Star Wars Night, winning 4-0 over the Kootenay Ice. The Giants got their goals from Ty Ronning, Chase Lang, Radovan Bondra and Alec Baer while Ryan Kubic became the first goaltender in franchise history to compile three consecutive shutouts in the regular season.
The Giants came out with a hot start in the opening frame, outshooting the Ice 5-0 in the first two minutes of the period. Ronning drew first blood for the Giants, scoring his 17th of the year on a power play. Lang added to the Vancouver lead, scoring on a breakaway a few minutes later, and before the end of the period, Bondra rippled the mesh to make it 3-0.
The G-Men picked up where they left off in the second, carrying most of the play in the middle stanza in the Kootenay end. Baer notched his fifth of the year to extend the lead to 4-0. Ice goaltender Declan Hobbs was chased from the net after the fourth Vancouver goal and replaced by Wyatt Hoflin.
Neither team scored in the third period, and Kubic stopped all 25 shots he faced in the 4-0 win, extending his shutout streak to 197:03.
Chase Lang scored the Insurance Goal of the Game.
The Giants are back in action Saturday when they travel to Everett to take on the Silvertips. Puck drop is at 7:05pm.
