Giants Beat Blazers 3-1

James Malm scored his first two goals in the WHL to lead the Vancouver Giants to a 3-1 victory over the Kamloops Blazers on Sunday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre. Brendan Semchuk also bagged a goal for Vancouver while Ryan Kubic stopped 27 of 28 shots in the Giants’ net.

Semchuk opened the scoring for Vancouver at 7:20 of the first period, wiring a wrist shot past Kamloops goalie Connor Ingram from the left circle after a pretty setup by Dawson Holt. Malm extended the Vancouver lead just 1:40 later, knocking the rebound of an Alec Baer shot into the back of the net off the rush for his first WHL goal.

The Blazers cut into the Vancouver lead in the middle frame when a Luke Zazula point shot found its way past Kubic with traffic in front of the net, but Malm scored again a few minutes later on a two-on-one to put Vancouver ahead 3-1.

The G-Men shut the door in the third period, holding the Blazers to only seven shots, to secure their first victory of the season.

James Malm scored the Insurance Goal of the Game.

The Giants return to action on Wednesday when they host the Victoria Royals at the Langley Events Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:00pm. For tickets, click here or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
