Giants Add Grit by Picking Up Kale Kessy from Medicine Hat
October 12, 2012
VANCOUVER, BC – After releasing over-age defenseman John Neibrandt on Thursday, today the Giants quickly filled that open 20 year-old slot, picking up forward Kale Kessy from the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for a conditional 5th round pick in 2015.
Kessy, a 4th-round pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in 2011, stands at 6’3, 202 lbs. He’s played his entire career in Medicine Hat, from 2008 to 2012, registering 71 points and 422 PIM’s in a span of 195 games.
General manager Scott Bonner explains that "we were looking for a big, strong physical presence and in Kale we acquire a player very similiar to our former captain Tristan Grant whom was a valuable member when we were building the foundation for this franchise"
After 16 points and 151 PIM in 49 games last year, Kessy started this season with 2 goals in his first 2 games, before being handed down a 12-game suspension on Sep 27 for an elbow to the head of Lethbridge Hurricanes defenseman Ryan Pilon. He has served 6 games of that suspension with Medicine Hat and has 6 remaining in Vancouver. He’ll be eligible to play his first game in a Giants uniform on October 30th in Lethbridge against those same Hurricanes.
