Thomas Foster netted two goals to lead the Vancouver Giants to a 4-1 win over the Prince George Cougars on Saturday night at the CN Centre. Ben Thomas and Dakota Odgers also scored for the G-Men who won their third consecutive road game.
Neither team scored in the first period, and the Giants lost veteran forward Trevor Cox for the night after he took the brunt of a Colby McAuley open ice hit.
Jesse Gabrielle opened the scoring for the Cougars in the early stages of the middle frame, but the Prince George club got into penalty trouble, and the Giants made them pay. Foster tied the game on a 5-on-3 power play, knocking the rebound of a Matt Barberis point shot past Prince George goalie Ty Edmonds. Less than a minute later, Thomas found the net on a long point shot to put Vancouver ahead 2-1, and before the period was out, Foster bagged another marker on the man advantage.
The Giants did a good job of holding the fort in the third period, and goaltender Ryan Kubic came up big with a handful of tremendous saves during a pair of Vancouver penalty kills. Odgers scored into an empty net in the final minute to clinch the victory.
Thomas Foster scored the Insurance Goal of the Game.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday at the CN Centre. Puck drop is at 5:00pm on TSN 1040.
