Americans Edge Giants on Family Day
The Vancouver Giants got goals from Jordan Borstmayer, Brendan Semchuk and Owen Hardy in a 5-3 loss to the Tri-City Americans on Monday afternoon at the Langley Events Centre.
Morgan Geekie put the Americans in front with a power play goal at 4:18 on the first period after a nice setup by Jordan Topping. Borstmayer equalized for Vancouver just after the midway mark of the frame when he scored on a one-timer from the slot. Dylan Coghlan beat Giants goaltender Ryan Kubic on a shot from the point with under two minutes to go in the stanza, but Semchuk hammered a slap shot past Tri-City goalie Rylan Parenteau on a man advantage before the end of the period to tie the game again.
The Americans got a pair of goals in the final five minutes of the second period, scored by Riley Sawchuk and Parker AuCoin, to take a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.
Hardy pulled Vancouver back to within one goal early in the third period, scoring at the side of the net after Taden Rattie forced a turnover and set him up. Jordan Topping scored later in the final frame for Tri-City.
The Americans out shot the Giants 40-21. Vancouver went 1-for-3 on the power play.
The Giants’ next game is set for Friday, February 17th, against the Kamloops Blazers at the Langley Events Centre. The puck will drop at 7:30pm. For tickets, click here or call 604.4.GIANTS (604.444.2687).
