2014 Bantam Draft Recap

The Giants picked 11 players in this year’s Western Hockey League Bantam Draft and made 2 trades to add to the young and talented team we have.

Below is a list of players and what Giants General Manager and Executive Vice President Scott Bonner and Giants scouting staff have to say about each of our newly acquired players.

Dawson Holt – Saskatoon, SK – Centre – 5’11”, 165lbs
“Dawson was one of the most talented offensive players in the draft and has great speed”

10th overall

Brendan Semchuk – Kamloops, BC – Centre – 5’10”, 160lbs
“Brendan is a big strong winger with great speed and a heavy shot”

29th overall
Dylan Plouffe – Sherwood Park, AB – Defence – 5’10”, 196lbs
“Dylan is a big left defenceman with offensive skills and he can really shoot the puck”

42nd overall

Owen Hardy – Kelowna, BC – Centre – 5’11”, 180lbs
“Owen is a power forward with skill and is a lot like former Giant Lance Bouma”

44th overall
James Malm – Langley, BC – Centre – 5’8″, 160lbs
“James has the best hands in BC and is a power play player”

51st overall
Max Gildon – Plano, TX – Defence – 6’1″, 160lbs
“Max is the best defense man in the draft and it is now our responsibility to convince him to join our program”

66th overall (did not pick – traded to Saskatoon in exchange for Clayton Kirichenko)
Clayton Kirichenko – Sherwood Park, AB – Defence – 6’0″, 187lbs
“We feel Clayton will add to both our skill and grit on the backend”

114th overall (did not pick – traded to Kamloops in exchange for Matt Bellerive)
Matt Bellerive – North Vancouver, BC – Right Wing – 5’11”, 188lbs
“We are happy to get Matty back in the program. We know he can help offensively and he’s familiar with our program”

David Tendeck – North Vancouver, BC – Goaltender – 6’0″, 155lbs
“David played very well for North Shore Winter club and was a key contributor”

Bailey Dhaliwal – Mission, BC – Defence – 6’2″, 185lbs
“Bailey is a good skating defenceman who can play in all situations”

John St. Ivany – Manhattan Beach, CA – Defence – 5″9″, 155lbs
“John can play in any situation and makes a good first pass which can create offence”

Jaren Turnquist – Calgary, AB – Right Wing – 5’11”, 160lbs
“Jaren is a hard worker and brings energy and a physical game with good speed”

Myles Mattila – Prince George, BC – Right Wing – 5″9″, 165lbs
