O’Connor Named Director Of Media Relations; Batchelor Moves On To Become Canucks New Play-By-Play Broadcaster
The Vancouver Giants announced on Monday that Brendan Batchelor has accepted a new career opportunity and will be moving on from the team while Dan O’Connor has been named the new Director of Media Relations and Play-by-Play Broadcaster for the club.

“We are very happy for Brendan, it is a big step for him and his career,” said Peter Toigo.  “We wish him all the best.”

O’Connor, 32, grew up in Tsawwassen, B.C. and has followed the Giants since their inaugural season in 2001-02. He volunteered with the team during the 2003-04 season and his family spent three seasons as a billet family for the Giants from 2004-05 through 2006-07. After graduating from Columbia Academy in Vancouver, O’Connor’s went on to broadcast games for the NWJHL’s Dawson Creek Junior Canucks and the SJHL’s Battlefords North Stars. He moved back to B.C. to join the WHL’s Prince George Cougars as their play-by-play broadcaster and media relations manager in 2011, spending the last six seasons with the team.

“As a teenager, I would practice calling Vancouver Giants games from the top row of the Pacific Coliseum and dreamt that one day I would have the opportunity to join my hometown WHL team in this capacity,” said O’Connor. “I want to thank the Toigo family, the management team, and the coaching staff for their trust and for welcoming me home with open arms. I’m very excited about what lies ahead for this exciting hockey team, and I can’t wait to get going.”

Batchelor called Giants games on TSN Radio for four seasons. He split game calling duties with Blake Price in 2013/14 before being named the sole Play-By-Play Announcer and Director of Media Relations for the club prior to the 2014/15 season. The 28-year-old Coquitlam native called 268 regular season games during his time with the G-Men.
